Transgendered tots

An article in The New York Times discusses attitudes of parents and schools towards gender-variant kids. (Thanks to Steve for pointing this out!)

This is especially interesting because most written work on transgendered people focuses on adults, as far as I've seen, despite the fact that many transgendered folk report feeling at odds with their physical sex since early childhood. The article also touches upon the possibility of hormone therapy for transgendered kids. I'm not entirely sure where I stand on that issue. On the one hand, a sex change can be more 'complete' if hormone therapy is performed before puberty. On the other hand, many of the effects are difficult to reverse, which is a problem if a patient decides that the sex change isn't what they want after all.
